Individual health plan

No one likes having to buy an individual health plan. Individual health insurance is costly – often prohibitively so. In addition, if you have had serious health problems in the past, it can be hard to even get health coverage. Nonetheless, individual health care is necessary. Even if you can't find affordable health insurance, you have to find some way to be covered. Otherwise, really serious disasters can happen.

One of my friends made the mistake of going without an individual health plan for a couple of years. She was traveling abroad, you see, and did not want to pay for the expense of health coverage. She would not be making a lot of money, would be living overseas, and didn't feel the need for an individual health plan. She was in great shape, her health was perfect, and she was young. In short, she was at very little risk of developing a serious health condition. Unfortunately, that is just what happens.

She came down with cancer. It was caught early, but because she did not have individual health insurance, it didn't matter. She simply could not afford the treatment. It was months and months before she could save up the money for the chemotherapy. By that point, the cancer had spread.

Now, she is fighting for her life. If we lived in a more civilized country which believed in giving all of its citizens affordable health care, she would be able to pay for individual health now. As it is, however, she can't. She has a pre-existing condition, you see, so none of the health insurance companies wants to cover her. No hospital will touch her until she is literally at death's door. A lot of her friends have chipped in, and we have managed to raise enough money for the chemotherapy, but it may not be enough.

Unfortunately, life insurance health is so expensive that many people can't get covered even if they want to. I have been using Kaiser individual health for a few years – one of the less expensive health care coverage plans – and I still have to pay nearly 200 dollars a month! This individual health plans is a stress on me, but it would be completely unaffordable for some people. There are people who simply cannot afford that expense. Some of them have children, but their children are not covered by health insurance plans. It really is a shame that health individual insurance is so expensive!
